Fifth grade students receive financial education and become bank officers
CAMBRIDGE, Mass., February 9, 2012 – Cambridge Savings Bank recently celebrated the re-opening of the student banks located at both the Peirce and Brackett Schools.
At the Peirce Pride Savings Bank, and the Brackett School Savings Bank, fifth grade students are offered an opportunity to learn financial fundamentals and apply what they learn by acting as bank officers and tellers. This financial role-playing allows students to perform important skill-building activities, such as processing deposits and withdrawals and completing weekly branch balancing.
“Cambridge Savings Bank is proud of our partnerships with both schools,” said Evan Diamond, financial education program manager at Cambridge Savings Bank. “We look forward to another year, and many more years to come of supporting our community with financial education. As a community bank, we strive to encourage young people to develop the habit of saving their money.”
The opening ceremony celebrations held at the schools served as an interactive learning experience for all that attended. Several young students volunteered to share their personal saving stories with their peers. The ceremonies concluded with a pledge as students vowed to perform their duties to the best of their abilities and to uphold the policies of their respective student savings banks.
Both the Peirce School and the Brackett School, alongside Cambridge Savings Bank, offered thanks to the parent volunteers and teachers for the prosperity of the student banking program. “We truly appreciate the amount of guidance and oversight offered by the teachers, and we cannot forget our outstanding volunteers who help all of our students at the bank,” said Karen Harley, principal, Peirce Elementary School.
