Protecting your identity and finances online begins with you and your internet use. Use the following WebSmart tips to help practice online safety.


  • Passwords. Choose complex passwords that include numbers and symbols and NEVER give your password to anyone.  
  • Log-out. Remember to log-out when you’re done with your WebBank session or any other online transaction. We also recommend that you always close your browser completely before starting a new internet transaction.
  • Public Computers. Avoid connecting to your bank account on public computers such as those found at libraries, cafes and hotels. These computers could have spyware on the equipment. 
  • Shred. Shred ATM and credit card receipts as well as credit card solicitations before tossing them.
  • Monitor Your Credit. Be sure to get a copy of your credit report annually to check for accuracy. You’re allowed one free credit report every year so take advantage of it! Go to, the only authorized source to get your free annual credit report under federal law.
  • Anti-Virus. Ensure you have up-to-date anti-virus software installed on your computer to combat various computer viruses, Trojans, spyware and more. Most importantly, make sure it is scanning your computer at least once a week. If you think you have an issue, seek a professional to assist with validating that there are no underlying issues that the software may be missing.
  • Block. Install a firewall and make sure your pop-up blocker is turned on in your internet security options.
  • Safe Social Networking. If you are a member of any social networking sites, do not post any personal information such as your mailing address or phone number.
