What is Google Pay? What happened to Android Pay?

Google PayTM is a digital wallet platform and online payment system developed by Google, enabling users to make payments with Android phones, tablets or watches.

Google Pay has replaced Android Pay. It’s just a name change, you can still pay in stores and online with Google Pay just like Android Pay.

What devices can use Google Pay?

You can use the Google Pay app on the following Android devices:

  1. NFC-enabled phone and tablet running Android OS 4.4 (KitKat) or higher
  2. NFC-enabled Android smartwatches
  3. Mobile ChromeTM browser running v53 or higher

How do I get Google Pay?

Google Pay is preloaded on some Android phones. Other eligible phones can get Google Pay by downloading it from the Google Play Store.

If you cannot find the Google Pay app on the Google Play store, it is because your device is not compatible with Google Pay (Only users that have KitKat (4.4 or higher) devices with NFC and HCE can download Google Pay.)

Where can I use Google Pay?

You can use Google Pay in stores wherever you see either one of these logos:

You can also make purchases by selecting “Buy with Google Pay” while shopping in participating merchant apps. A full list of participating Google Pay merchants and apps is available on the Google Pay website.

What do I do if I am issued a new card or my current Cambridge Savings Bank card expires?

When you receive a replacement Cambridge Savings Bank debit card, Cambridge Savings Bank will not automatically update your device account number within Google Pay with your new card information.

You can delete your old Cambridge Savings Bank debit card from your device and add the replacement card, which will create a new device account number.

Will my physical Cambridge Savings Bank card still work if I suspend or remove it from Google Pay?

Yes. If you suspend or remove your cards in Google Pay, only your device-specific Device Account Number is suspended or removed and you can continue to use your plastic card as you normally would.

Does it cost anything to use Google Pay?

There is no cost for using your Cambridge Savings Bank debit or credit card in Google Pay.
